World game
With its expansive environments and crafty puzzles, this 2015 installment of Crystal Dynamics’ vaunted Tomb Raider series is easily its best (read TIME’s review here). It transcends the tired run-and-fight mechanic that dominates so much of the action-adventure genre by instilling genuine feelings of wanderlust and peril no deposit bonus for shazam casino. Here, players might dangle from grappling lines tenuously tethered to shimmering walls framing glacial cathedrals, or explore optional booby-trapped tombs, each a study in the art of not repeating puzzles or level design. It’s survivalism at its best, and a stunning exemplar in the studio’s reinvention of an iconic 1990s franchise.
Pinpointing exactly why Fortnite became the juggernaut it did is difficult. It didn’t innovate the battle royale genre, and PUBG beat it to the punch of popularising it. So what caused it to explode as it did? Well, the fact it was free definitely plays a part, but there’s an unapologetic sense of fun that almost every other battle royale shies away from. Where PUBG tries to focus on gritty military realism, Fortnite just wants to mess about and have a good time, and that lets it play around with whacky weapons and items like no other game. Plus, now it’s such an industry giant, it can bring in huge crossover events. It doesn’t matter what game you’re playing, unleashing a Kamehameha on someone coming at you with a Lightsaber is a cool experience.
Arguably the most influential stealth game ever made. Without it, would we have Alien Isolation, Far Cry, Deus Ex, and essentially any first-person games with stealth elements? It’s doubtful. During development, the team at Looking Glass used submarines as inspiration for the stealth mechanics of Thief – there you are, waiting in the dark for that perfect moment, the right time to expose yourself. Only, there aren’t any torpedoes here. Just fast hands, water arrows, and a blackjack melee weapon for knocking out guards. It’s a shame we don’t see games use light and shadow like this anymore. The grandfather of modern stealth games is still worth playing in 2022.

In his first Major League seasons, Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto had a tendency to get better as a game went along. So, it seemed important that the Yankees get to him early. Instead, they stranded a leadoff walk in the first inning and went their first turn through the order without a hit. Soto homered in the third, and Yamamoto retired the next 11 in a row. The Yankees needed to score early, but they had only one hit through the first eight innings. Their ninth inning was exciting, but it was too little, too late.

Can this series possibly top that ending we just saw?“You’re 5 years old in the backyard right there,” Freddie Freeman said on the FOX broadcast, moments after he hit a walk-off grand slam to win Game 1 of the World Series and seconds before his teammates poured a bucket of Gatorade on his head. There were immediately many comparisons to Kirk Gibson’s home run off Dennis Eckersley to win Game 1 of the 1988 World Series for the Dodgers, but, honestly, Freeman’s homer stands on its own.
I hereby decree the “Yankees suck” chant is low rent. Just cheer for your team. It’s like the “overrated” chant in college sports. You are indirectly denigrating your own team by saying their foe sucks.
The extent of the injury and Ohtani’s availability for the rest of the series remain unknown. After the game Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani’s strength and range of motion were good, but that he’s getting more tests done tonight.
Dodgers: The Dodgers used all their high-leverage relievers in Game 1, but they should be available again on Saturday. The question for L.A. will be whether or not Alex Vesia and Brusdar Graterol will be able to pitch on back-to-back nights given they’re both coming off injuries. L.A. has plenty of coverage, if needed, with Ben Casparius, Landon Knack and Brent Honeywell on the roster.
Game 1 world series
The play was highly reminiscent of Kirk Gibson’s walk-off homer in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series against the Oakland A’s. In both cases, a slugger hobbled by an injury delivered a homer to win the game. Gibson’s still reverberates through Dodgers history, and this one will, too, if the Dodgers can get it done in the next few games.
Freeman had sat out Game 6 of the NLCS because of the ankle sprain. He’s not as bad off as Gibson was when he was relegated to the Dodger bench with a pulled left hamstring and swollen right knee in ’88, but he really needed those four days off between rounds.
But in the eighth, the Dodgers capitalized on a costly defensive miscue. Ohtani rocketed a Tommy Kahnle changeup for a double off the top of the right-center field wall. Juan Soto’s one-hop throw back to the infield bounced off Gleyber Torres’ glove, and Ohtani was able to advance to third.
Though it had been a long time since these baseball behemoths last met on this stage, the Dodgers and Yankees, facing each other for the 12th time, are the most common World Series opponents. These are the clubs that staged the first Subway Series, back when the Bronx Bombers defeated “Dem Bums” from Brooklyn mere months before the U.S. entered World War II. These are the franchises that battled each other while the Bronx was burning and Reggie Jackson was taking on the “Mr. October” moniker. These are the teams that last coexisted in the Fall Classic in 1981, when the Dodgers’ rotation was led by a rookie phenom named Fernando Valenzuela.
Game 5 world series 2024
Officially, Buehler got the save. The Game 3 starter came out of the bullpen in Game 5 to slam the door on the Yankees. Blake Treinen got the game’s most important outs though. He got seven outs spanning the sixth to eighth innings, his longest outing since 2016. Treinen struck out Anthony Rizzo to end the eighth inning with two runners on base.
Turns out they were correct about that. One minute, some folks were wondering if Cole would be allowed to complete the Yankees’ first World Series no-hitter since Don Larsen. The next, those same folks were wondering: How the heck is this game actually tied?
But let’s forget the no-hitter part of this plotline. Let’s just focus on the five-run lead part. You know how hard it is to blow a five-run lead in a World Series game — whether you’re giving up no hits or 12 hits?
10:27 p.m. — PITCHING CHANGE. Rizzo walks after after getting Graterol to a 3-2 count as Volpe steps up with two on and two out. Trienen comes in for LA as their seventh arm of the night. Volpe grounds out to Lux and the inning ends with the Yankees back in front.
Bottom of the sixth: Facing Dodgers reliever Brusdar Graterol, Juan Soto drew his third walk of the game. Graterol then walked Aaron Judge, prompting a mound visit. Jazz Chisholm grounded into a force out at second base, putting runners on the corners.
