The game goes light on a story that combines biological and mechanical philosophies alike. As you make your way through, you’ll hear the hum of engines and the moist squishy sounds of unknown creatures’ moving flesh.

For the Dodgers, Tommy Edman, Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernández each homered. The Yankees scored a run and then loaded the bases in the ninth against Blake Treinen, but Alex Vesia was able to come on for the one-out save.
Manager Dave Roberts said after the game that Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder and will undergo testing Sunday, but said that the team is “encouraged” by his strength and range of motion. Needless to say, losing Ohtani for any length of time would be a devastating blow for the Dodgers, even with a 2-0 series lead. They’re already playing a hobbled Freeman. A compromised Ohtani would be bad news.
The Yankees pushed a run across to cut the deficit to 4-2, though the Dodgers were able to escape the inning when Treinen struck out Anthony Volpe, and Alex Vesia got Jose Trevino to fly out to center to end the game. Trevino pinch-hit for the lefty swinging Austin Wells, who was 0 for 3 in the game.
“I appreciate it. It really is cool,” Freeman said of the fans chanting his name. “Walking up to the plate my first at-bat today, it’s hard not to have a smile on the inside. You try hard to lock it in. I only get 30 seconds to get up there. It’s just special to the fans to embrace, appreciate, and we were able to deliver another win for them tonight.”

Thirty-six years after a gimpy Kirk Gibson limped to the plate to smack a Game 1 walk-off homer, Freddie Freeman came to the plate on a badly injured right ankle with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th and belted the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history to send the Dodgers to an electrifying 6-3 victory over the Yankees on Friday night at a sold-out Dodger Stadium.
Wow, Ohtani swings on the first pitch and sends it into foul territory, where Alex Verdugo runs it down for the second out on an acrobatic play. The Yankees opt to walk Mookie Betts and have the left-handed Nestor Cortes face Freddie Freeman, another player returning from injury. This is some drama.
Kyle Tucker, the under-appreciated star in the Houston lineup, puts the first run of the World Series on the board with a home run to right field off a poorly located 1-1 changeup from Aaron Nola. That’s a bad sign for Nola. He was great in his first two postseason starts, allowing one unearned run over 12.2 innings, but served up two home runs in a Game 2 NLCS loss to the Padres, blowing an early 4-0 lead in the process. The Astros are also running his pitch count up through the first two innings, another bad sign for the Phillies, who don’t have the bullpen depth the Astros have in case Nola can’t go six or seven innings. One more piece of bad news for the Phillies: Martin Maldonado singles in a run to make it 2-0: The Astros have won 22 consecutive games when they’ve scored first, going back to the regular season. — Schoenfield
